Arboleas, Spain

Arboleas is a municipality of Almeria province (The name "Almería" stems from Al-Mariyat: "The Mirror of the Sea", in Arabic.) , in the autonomous community of Andalusia, Spain. Found in the Almanzora valley Arboleas is a small town on the bank of the Almanzora River, in the spurs of the Filabres Mountain range. It has a strong agricultural economy growing citrus, olive trees, almond trees and cereals such as wheat and barley. These orchards and fields are extended up the  Almanzora river towards Cantoria and Albanchez and many of these products are sold in the large market every Tuesday in Albox. The village of Arboleas is situated on the riverbank in the Almanzora valley, one of many small settlements along the course of the river, which waters the fertile plain. It has a strong agricultural economy, producing citrus fruit, olives, almonds and cereals. Its history can be traced back to prehistoric times, through to the Romans, Moors and Christians, though the origins of the present village are medieval With an approximate 20 minute travel time from Mojacar, a delightful resort with a fine beach backed by spectacular mountains with just a few minutes along the coast from Mojacar is the port of Garrucha famed for its fish restaurants making it very popular with Spanish visitors who enjoy the day to day hustle and weekly market.  Details; The old part of the town has cobbled streets and an ancient church, constructed in 1942 by the  Cardinal Archbishop of Toledo. This area has been inhabited since prehistoric days and has an interesting history, details of which can be found in the town hall in the higher part of the town.
