Climate

Of course it's the weather that draws people here initially, less than three hours from the winter rain you can languish under bright blue skies and brilliant sunshine. Both these areas are known for their excellent weather. Almeria enjoys much the same climate and temperatures as the Costa Del Sol but being less known its more relaxed, less crowded and much less expensive,. During summer, Spain can be hot but do as the locals do, enjoy the cooling beach breezes in the mornings and relax by the pool in the afternoon.

Spanish Cusine

One thing is certain in Spain, there's no reason to go hungry. Restaurants of every variety, food venders and food markets are almost everywhere in the inner cities. At regular intervals along the regional highways of Spain, one can find roadside restaurants. What makes Spanish cuisine special is its freshness, regional dishes, and the plentiful availability of quality seafood. Go in to any major food market in Spain and you will see a huge variety of produce.

The cuisine of Arboleas is based on dishes made from local produce. They  also make wine and the oranges are very good. The most outstanding ingredient in the cuisine of Arboleas is the abundance of fresh fish – you may need to be a little adventurous if you have never tried things like squid or red mullet before but you are unlikely to be disappointed. Fish chowder (a kind of soup or stew) is typical of the region, with variations between towns – for example in Almeria City you would eat Sopa de Almeria, a similar dish in Mojacar would be Caldo Colorado, or Caldo de Pescado in Almanzora. The food in Almeria is wholesome and substantial, rather than pretentious – no Nouvelle Cuisine here.

¿Habla Espanol?

Whilst English is widely spoken and understood you will come across many people, particularly the older generation, who only speak Spanish. It's polite and fun to be able to say hello, please and thank you and with a little effort you will soon pick up a few words.
